Last light days in late autumn.
Jaakko Mattila: Its a mess. But I know where 99% of the things are and thats enough- this is my space and I need to feel as free as possible. I have thousands of records, a jukebox, a collection of books on colour, favourite artists’ monoraphs, poetry, massive collection of different teas and lots of different kinds of papers in big rolls. There is good natural light that is essential.
The fuckers that are all dead now thanks to my spiders.

Jaakko Mattila:I had a problem with silverfish that were eating my watercolours. but who could blame them- some of the materials I have been using are from 3 star michelin resturants like Noma and plankton & algae from Aponiente. Last summer I kept a window open for 3 months and managed to lure in a family of spiders that have eventually eaten all of the silverfish- Ive seen not a single living one this winter. So I would say spiders have definitely inspired me lately.
Mostly things my wife wont let me have in our home.
Jaakko Mattila: The only connecting thing is really inside my head - the space/location has nothing to do with it, it can merely be a distraction. My studio is in the middle of suvilahti that has a lot of events and festivals and they disturb the workflow immensily. There have been funny moments as well- hearing Kraftwerk do a soundcheck while taking the trash to collection point (they do play live), eating oysters & champagne brought from Grace Jones’s backstage etc. But I see my studio as a limitation now as it is way too small for me. I am working towards project based strategy at the moment but we’ll see how that goes. If you have a big space available & like my works please DM me :)
