Genietta
Varsi (PE/FI)
Genietta Varsi (Lima, 1991) is a Peruvian visual artist currently based in Finland. Her artistic practice materially researches the relationship between humans and their environments through a methodology based in sculptural making/thinking and body awareness. She is interested in how our bodies are shaped by and shaping the spaces we inhabit, and through her works she thinks of biological and ecological activity as sculptural processes. She works with diverse media, including drawing, sculpture, performance and embodied actions, visual poetry, video, and text as instruments for speculating ways of connecting bodies and environments. Currently she has an ongoing interest in urban waters and bodily fluids, focusing on how waters cross microscopic and macroscopic membranes.
She holds a MA in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art from Aalto University, Finland and a BFA in Sculpture from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. She has participated in residencies at the Delfina Foundation (UK), FAAP (Brazil), and Molten Capital (Chile), and her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across the Americas and Europe, such as 13va Bienal do Mercosul (Porto Alegre, 2023). Recent solo exhibitions include 'Porosibilidades: gotejar, esgotejar' (São Paulo, 2023) and 'Pumping Roots' (Prague, 2022), and Conducción Neumática' (Lima, 2021).
