Hyy (FI)
Hanna Hyy (b. 1990) creates observational paintings that address life through nostalgic and surprising, even strange, objects. Observations of this era and of humanity become approachable on a tangible scale—for instance, that of a toy or a taxidermied bird. Working primarily with watercolor and oil paint, Hyy distills the everyday into precise compositions where discarded objects take on both symbolic and peculiarly autonomous roles.
Hyy holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki (2019). In recent years, her works have been shown, among others, at the Young Artists 2023 exhibition at Kunsthalle Helsinki and at the Mänttä Art Festival 2023. Internationally, Hyy took part in the esteemed Charlottenborg Spring Salon in 2020.
Her works are included in the collection of the Finnish State Art Commission as well as in numerous private collections in Finland and abroad. Her artistic work has been supported by, among others, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Paulo Foundation, Frame Finland, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and Kone Foundation.
Originally from Eastern Finland, Hyy now lives and works in Raseborg.
