Joni
Kärkkäinen (FI)
Joni Kärkkäinen works within the expanded field of sculpture, drawing on found materials and a wide array of techniques, including stone carving, metalwork, and painting. His practice interweaves craftsmanship, an intimate understanding of materials, and a sensitivity to temporal layers. For Kärkkäinen art is a way to perceive the many forms of existence – both visible and invisible realities. His sculptural world moves along the thresholds of folklore, craft traditions, and the digital era, where raw and weighty materials confront the intangible realm of a touchscreen-driven reality.
Joni Kärkkäinen (b. 1988) lives and works in Helsinki. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Helsinki in 2022. His work has been exhibited widely in Finland and abroad, and is included in numerous private collections as well as the Finnish State Art Collection.
