Laura Ilvessalo (FI)

Laura Ilvessalo (b. 1992) is a Turku-based visual artist and textile designer.

Working between the fields of fine art and design, she connects her two passions by translating her artworks into surface pattern designs.

Ilvessalo works primarily with oil painting. Her artistic process focuses on texture, color, and layered composition. She is interested in visual storytelling, often depicting small yet meaningful moments from everyday life through expressive color palettes and strong, gestural brushstrokes.

Ilvessalo studied art at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (BA & MA) and design at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Since 2021, she has held several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. Her work has also been exhibited internationally, including in Tallinn, Berlin, and Tokyo.

In her recent work, Ilvessalo has focused on semi-abstract landscapes inspired by Nordic environments, exploring the impact of global warming on northern ecosystems and the melting of permafrost.
