Linn Byrkjeland (FI)

Linn Byrkjeland (b.1991) is a visual artist born in Mustasaari and is currently based in Vaasa, Finland. Her practice centers around painting, drawing and installation.

Her artistic work stems from color and curiosity. Color is for her a way of expressing herself: how she experiences the world and how she uses the elements to construct her universe. In her artistic work, she explores a mythologically charged universe through abstract landscapes, and her paintings and drawings have a surreal undertone.

Her universe exists in different dimensions and in worlds within worlds. She depicts this mythological universe through images. It is full of different creatures resembling animals living in Nordic forests. The characters and scenarios she creates move between earthly elements and space, combining the rational and the absurd, dismantling our deeply rooted perceptions of reality and allowing us to embrace a parallel world.

Byrkjeland holds a Bachelor in Contemporary Art from Tromsø Academy of Fine Arts, Norway (2020) and a Master in Fine Arts from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Sweden (2023). She has held solo exhibitions in Stockholm, Gotland and Mustasaari and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
