Maija Kutin (FI)

Maija Kutin (b. 1994, Helsinki) is a Finnish visual artist who lives and works in Helsinki.

Maija Kutin’s works are woven with symbols that evoke dreams, memories, and the movements of the subconscious. They capture states of mind, quiet motion, and layered symbolism. Her visual language is organic, soft, and curved – like the roots of a tree or the slow flow of water.

Her paintings feature strong yet controlled colors, deep contrasts, and a luminous glow, blending elements of surrealism, expressionism, and modernism into a personal visual idiom. Through light, color, and form, she constructs both external and internal landscapes. The painting process itself is unhurried, and this sense of calm translates to the viewer through her works.

Maija draws inspiration from the diversity and quiet strength of Finnish nature. In her art, the elements of nature intertwine with the values and phenomena of contemporary society. Through her works, she explores societal values and perspectives, such as individualism. She perceives a connection between the phenomena of nature and philosophy in their shared mystique – in the idea that there are no absolute answers, only thoughts and interpretations.

Maija has created a diverse body of work using a variety of techniques. At present, she focuses primarily on oil painting and the use of oil pastels. She also creates black-and-white drawings.
