Marika Lahdenperä (FI)

In her works, Lahdenperä strives to show a childlike focus on the small details of nature, eventually bringing out something touching and emotional from them. She brings this playfulness forward by cutting and combining shapes of paper with light, clay, and wooden structures, thus creating space and three-dimensionality within traditional painting. Although light and shadow are important, painting always takes priority in her practice. She enjoys the evenness of colours, but contrast is created through the three-dimensionality of the works and the shadows that reflect the depths of nature.

With her work, Lahdenperä aims to bring out the many dimensions of watercolour painting.

Marika Lahdenperä (b. 1998) graduated as a painter from the Vapaa Taidekoulu in 2021, from whose graduation exhibition her work was purchased for the collection of the Finnish National Gallery (Kansallisgalleria). Lahdenperä now lives in Tampere and works at the Takahuhti Art Centre. She has held exhibitions around Finland, as well as in Berlin.

Her upcoming exhibitions will be seen, for example, in Tampere at Pispala Clothing and in the upstairs space of Rajatila Gallery (Galleria Rajatila). She will also have a solo exhibition at the Art Centre Mältinranta Studio (Taidekeskus Mältinrannan Studio), granted to her as a scholarship exhibition by the Alli and Alla Salo Separate Fund (Alli ja Alla Salon Erillisrahasto).
