Martin Dahlström-Heuser (BR/FI)

Martin Dahlström-Heuser (Brazilian-born, lives and works in Helsinki) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is built on self-imposed rules: repetition, strict procedures, and material stress. He subjects each concept to a set of constraints, pushing a medium—whether video, painting, or sculpture—until it reaches a point of structural or psychological failure. The results are works that look seductive at first glance but reveal a darker undercurrent of confrontation, shame, and control.

Since 2006, Dahlström-Heuser has exhibited internationally, with recent solo exhibitions including 'Bathe in Gold' (Asbestos Art Space, 2024) and 'Nightscapes, etc.' (Myymälä2, 2023). His video work PERR0RS was featured at QueerHEL (Kulttuuritalo) in 2025. His practice is supported by a background in academic research focused on games as disciplinary structures, a methodology that informs the rigorous constraints of his studio work. His work is held in the public collections of the Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul (MARGS) and the Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Rio Grande do Sul (MACRS) in Brazil.
