Mira Kankaanranta (FI)

Mira Kankaanranta (b. 1983) is a visual artist from Tornio who lives and works in Teijo, Salo. She holds a visual artist’s degree from the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences, and has contributed to various solo and group exhibitions throughout Finland. Her works are featured in the collections of the Finnish State Art Commission, the Aine Art Museum, and the City of Rovaniemi.

Kankaanranta paints primarily with oils but sometimes also uses things like watercolour, ink, and oil pastels. Her paintings frequently portray human figures that blend into nature and take after its rhythm and way of being. Beside nature and man, her paintings weave together the outer and inner, the visible and invisible world. Her works are influenced by observing the surroundings and being enchanted by the details and colours of nature, but the images also arise from atmospheres, emotional states, and intuitive doing. Kankaanranta paints without sketches or a precise plan so painting layers, trials, and even failures are part of the painting process.
