Pekka Juhani Ijäs (FI)

Pekka Juhani Ijäs is a Helsinki-based artist working in southern Finland’s Helsinki and Fiskars. With a background in architecture, urban culture, and independent streetwear, Ijäs moves across disciplines, often blurring the lines between drawing, graphic design, and spatial thinking.

His practice is rooted in hand-drawn techniques developed over years of working in both architectural contexts and textile-based graphics. Influences range from street art and subcultural aesthetics to architectural sketches, band logos, and typographies. These references appear in his work as layered, intuitive mark-making — often combining structure and improvisation in equal measure.

Ijäs is the founder of WWOOLLFF CO. — an indie streetwear label established in 2015 — that also functions as a platform for experimental visual language and limited-edition clothing. Alongside his design and art practice, he’s also a board member of ONOMA, the Cooperative of Artists, Designers and Artisans in Fiskars.

Ijäs’ work has been exhibited at the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale in 2022 and 2024, and in ONOMA’s summer exhibitions in 2023 and 2025. He has also developed various experimental art and design concepts, including The Black Box: Helsinki Mobile Museum of Modern Art, a container gallery located in Helsinki’s Lasipalatsi plaza from 2013 to 2014.

His recent work explores how abstract monochromatic lines and informal visual expression — such as tags, quick and unplanned drawings, and intuitive sketching — can be interpreted as forming structural patterns and artworks. Ijäs is currently developing a new multidisciplinary platform focused on architecture and urban street-level culture, set to open in Helsinki in 2025.
