Perttu Mäkelä (FI)

Perttu Mäkelä (b. 1979) is a contemporary visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki. Mäkelä’s artistic practice explores the dialogue between nature, memory, and abstraction.

Over the past years, he has cultivated flower meadows at his summer cottage, creating a living sanctuary for bees and butterflies. These meadows have not only become a refuge from everyday life but also a profound source of inspiration for his paintings. Their shifting colors, textures, and rhythms gradually appear on canvas—first as recognizable flowers, later transforming into abstract forms and layered compositions.

Working with acrylics, chalk, and colored pencils on both primed and unprimed canvas, Mäkelä creates paintings that invite viewers into open spaces of reflection. Like the meadows that inspire them, his works offer room to breathe: fields of color and form where inner experiences can unfold freely.
