Petra Aaltola (FI)

Petra Aaltola (b. 1992, Orimattila) is a visual artist born in Orimattila and currently based in Helsinki. Her practice centers around ceramic sculpture and installation, through which she explores themes of utopia, emotional fractures, empathy, and nostalgia. Aaltola approaches serious and often complex subjects with a naivistic aesthetic, creating works that disarm through softness while resonating with depth.

Her visual language draws inspiration from both ancient art history and the playful, synthetic aesthetics of 1990s toys. She is particularly drawn to the interplay between the embodied and the disembodied, and to the liminal states that emerge when control is relinquished. Her installations and sculptural works often evoke a subtle tension between vulnerability and resilience, inviting viewers into spaces where personal and collective memories blur.

Aaltola holds a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University’s Department of Art, from which she graduated in 2021. She has held solo exhibitions in Helsinki, Pori, Tampere, and Lahti, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Finland and France.
