Sara Manninen (FI)

Sara Manninen (b. 1996, Kangasniemi) is a visual artist and printmaker based in Turku, working primarily with photographic-based printmaking techniques. She graduated as a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki in 2022 and from Turku Arts Academy in 2019, specializing in printmaking.

Manninen works with photograph-based printmaking technique, photopolymer. Her artworks are crystallizations of a slow and exploratory working process with an emerging poetic undertone. Black printing ink and both imaginary and existing views, in which the documentarity of photograph and ambiguous nature of handicraft merge, are distinctive elements in Sara's work.

She is fascinated by the tension between the imaginary and physical realities. Her works explore themes of temporality, shared and subjective memory, and liminal spaces through imagery where familiar is mixed with unfamiliar and ominious. Craftsmanship and experimental technical methods serve as central foundations in Sara's practice.
