Sawako Hoshi is a textile and visual artist known for her unique oil pastel scratching technique. Her work explores the beauty of nature and landscapes drawn from memory, creating pieces that resonate with both tranquility and vitality. Through her practice, Hoshi captures fleeting moments of light, texture, and emotion, inviting viewers to engage deeply with her art.
Hoshi earned her BA in Textile Art from Musashino Art University in 2008 before moving to Finland, where she completed her MA in Textile Art at Aalto University in 2011. Her dual cultural influences—Japanese and Nordic—infuse her work with a meditative quality and a profound connection to nature.
As a freelance artist, Hoshi has collaborated with numerous renowned brands, including Marimekko, Samuji, and UNIQLO, contributing to their textile and print designs. Alongside her design work, she exhibits her original artworks regularly, with solo exhibitions held in both Finland and Japan.
Hoshi’s work reflects a deep reverence for the natural world, expressed through her intricate and layered technique. Her art not only celebrates the beauty of landscapes but also invites viewers to explore the interplay between memory, emotion, and nature.
