Vera den Arend (b. 1996, NL) is a visual artist based in Finland. She works mainly with drawing, depicting her relationship with her environment, the people around her, and her own reflection.

In drawing, den Arend uses her subject matter to explore the possibilities of her material. In recent years, she has worked with self-made charcoal, gathering the raw materials from the forest surrounding her home and carbonizing them either in the sauna stove or in a traditional Finnish masonry heater.

Her work combines free and deliberate mark-making along with interpretation of observation, expressing the essence and present state of natural and human elements. Through her drawing hand, imagination, and inner perception, she translates her lived experience of space, guided by curiosity and appreciation for nature.

She graduated with a BA from Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in 2019.
