Stoneware, Glass
These ceramic sculptures serve as sanctuaries, offering shelter, water, and nutrition for struggling urban insects, and reconnecting humans in the city with the natural world around them. Over a 27-year period, we have lost 74% of insect biomass, threatening pollination and waste decomposition, vital for our crops and ecosystem. Botanic Altars puts insects and their native host plants, often mistaken for weeds, on the pedestal they deserve, showcasing their essential role in the circularity of life on earth.
Combining traditional craftmanship with innovative approaches, sewing fabrics and creating large plaster moulds to shape the Stoneware in large, organic structures, and crafting a frothy glazebody for the insects to hide.
