The quilt was part of my solo exhibition in Asbetos Artspace in Helsinki during the summer of 2025.
The quilts were made in a span of about two years since becoming a mother. Made in between naps and bedtime.
Each quilt is a record of time, with a memory/feeling/thought tied to each one, along with a note of the material or technique being explored.
Underneath I Used to Be a Blanket No. 4, it read "I keep coming back to the loss of closeness that was breastfeeding." "Clay as ornaments; copper and iron inks."
The cotton blocks were painted with inks made from copper and iron solutions, which took many weeks to prepare.
Upcycled fabric, botanical dye on cotton, oil stick on clay, thread and batting. Hand-stitched, hand-bound and hand-quilted.
