Wildlife meets art - this is Victor Gogly's studio!

Look at the paintings on the wall!

WWW Contemporary: How would you describe your workspace, Victor?

VG: My studio is located in Vantaa, between a forest and the airport. I can catch sight of deers and planes at the same time. I mostly work on one or two tables depending on the space available, it’s a shared studio. The natural light is pretty good during the spring and summer thanks to the skylight. The studio is part of our home, so it’s pretty convenient. I can just come for a short moment to draw or paint a few lines.

My name is Work. Art Work.

WWW Contemporary: What kind of materials and techniques you have been interested in lately, why?

VG: I recently started drawing on wood panels. I prepare the wood pieces with several layers of gesso and then acrylic to color the background. It reveals the important aspect of drawing in my practice, usually it’s mostly covered by paint, but recently I want to make it more visible. It’s like making the mechanism of my images visible. I wanted to create more direct works. The erasing is also important here, there’s a transformative process during which a shape evolves into another, being eroded by the eraser.

WWW Contemporary: Do you notice a direct connection between the space and the creative thinking or the process of your working?

VG: For sure yes, observing animals and vegetation making their way through forest and human inhabited zones. The location of my studio makes it a precious place for observing and being attentive to the way an animal or a tree moves. But you can also hear the sound of the highway and airplanes. So I’m constantly in contact with these overlapping sides, which is central to my work. Painting and drawing helps me comprehend the connection that I make and which aspects of reality I superpose to make them communicate.
