Anu Raatikainen (FI)

Anu Raatikainen is a Helsinki-based visual artist working across light, painting, drawing, sculpture, video, animation, 3D, and performance. Interdisciplinary study, collaboration, and dialogue with the subconscious play an important role in her practice, which draws, among other influences, from art history, natural sciences, depth psychology, esotericism, mysticism and speculative thought.

Light often functions as both material and theme in her works. She is particularly interested in light’s affective and instinctual power, its ability to feel animate, and its capacity to blur boundaries between nature, technology, and perception. In addition to her artistic work, she has engaged with light art through curation and association activities.

Raatikainen graduated with a Master’s degree from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2017. She has presented solo and group exhibitions in Finland and internationally, including in Sweden, Japan, and Italy. Her recent solo exhibitions have been held at Huuto II Gallery in Helsinki, Oksasenkatu 11 in Helsinki, Vaasa Art Hall in Vaasa, and MUU Gallery in Helsinki.

In 2022–2024, she worked on the Phototaxis, a body of work designed to be exhibited in nature with light as its core element. The project engaged with contemporary research on light pollution, augmented reality, and mythological, prehistoric, and astronomical influences.
