Fabu
Pires (FI/BR)
Fabu is a visual artist based in Helsinki, whose practice, since 2011, investigates the transformative potential of art, blending personal narratives with a deep engagement in material and conceptual exploration. His work stems from lived experiences, transforming them into playful, symbolic, and reflective compositions. In addition to painting, he works with textiles, murals, collages, and digital graphics, exploring diverse materials and using art as a tool for transformation.
His art inhabits the space between vulnerability and expression, inviting the audience into a dialogue that connects the personal and the universal. Through these varied practices, often enriched with collaborative and audiovisual elements, Fabu creates immersive experiences that evoke emotion, memory, and connection.
For Fabu, art is both process and ritual, a means of navigating the complexities of human experience and articulating subtle emotions and cultural narratives. Each gesture and layer carries traces of his journey, blending intimacy with the globalized world we live in. His work is an invitation to reflection, feeling, and a renewed encounter with the world through his memories and the transformative power of artistic expression.
Fabu has an extensive history of solo and group exhibitions, including his two most recent solo exhibitions at Galleria Saltbodan (2025) and Loisti Galleria (2024). He also collaborates with local companies and festivals and works as an art educator, sharing his practice and creative insights with the community.
