Lumi Tuomi (FI)

Lumi Tuomi (b. 1997) is a Finnish-Karelian artist. They work with photography, textile and hair-based works, and is inspired by the crossing of handcraft and contemporary art.

At the heart of Tuomi’s artistic practice is a subtile skill of repurposing the hair from their mother’s hairbrush thematically and as a material, which becomes a red thread intertwining throughout their works. Tuomi’s multidisciplinary works examine possibilities and forms of Karelian photography, the contradictory nature of hair and hair loss, and garden as a living archive of cultural heritage.

Tuomi currently finalises their masters degree in Photography in Aalto University. They graduated from the photography department of Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in 2021. Selected group exhibitions include Bloom in Lokal gallery (2025); Keššetäh in Oksasenkatu 11 (2025); Masters of Photography — Image Being in the Finnish Museum of Photography (2025); PhotoVogue Festival in Base Milano (2023); and Generation 2020 and Generation 2017 exhibitions in Amos Rex and Amos Anderson Art Museum. Tuomi’s works are in the collections of the Finnish State Commission and the Finnish Museum of Photography.
