This artwork has been on display in the exhibition Premordial Home at Galleria Napa, Rovaniemi, Finland, in the beginning of 2025.
Primordial Home is an exhibition about the fragile nature of the north and the necessity of cycles for life. In nature, I find myself at the edge of endings and renewals, contemplating the change that permeates all existence. I contemplate living nature as vast roots whose network extends everywhere. Humanity cannot act apart from it, as our bodies are always connected to the ever-changing environment.
The memory of this landscape is etched into the maps of my body, which lines are cutting through eternity to this moment. I recognize myself in the great water resting on the mountain, I am in the meandering river and its shifting channels, reborn in the saplings of the forests, hollowed out in the decaying trees and slumbering deep within the eye of the swamp. Cradled in the cyclical erosion of nature, we are all carved from the same waters, myself and all living beings. Here, I am in touch, a part, and connected. The landscape is an extension of my body, my being intertwines with its pulsating veins. I merge into the network of forces that binds everything together. When something ends, something new begins, and eventually, we transform into one another. The existence of this reality has begun to weaken, as the cycle of matter is undergoing a transformation. Where do we journey if the great primordial home disappears? Is there another north somewhere to be found?
