Lumme (FI)
Johanna Lumme is a visual artist, illustrator and author based in Helsinki, Finland. Her primary medium is painting on canvas and paper with oil colours, tempera, gouache and crayons.
Lumme describes her artistic practice as follows: “As an artist, I focus on depicting the delicate nature of the North and the experiential aspect of the relationship with nature. Nature reveals itself to me as vast roots—a network that extends to all of us. Humans cannot exist apart from this, for the body is always connected to its changing environment. Ecosystems embody both diversity and the interaction between different forms of life, emphasizing the importance of coexistence and mutual dependence. In nature, I place myself at the edge of endings and renewals and reflect on the change that is present in everything. Matter moves constantly around but never disappears. Within nature’s intricate web, everything remains interconnected; what cycles around invariably comes back.”
Johanna Lumme holds a master’s degree in arts from Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She is a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union and the Helsinki Art Association. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across Finland and internationally in Estonia, Germany, and Sweden.
